This year the Greater Houston Chapter of TSPE received 52 scholarship applications from high school students in and around the Houston area.The scholarship review committee dedicated numerous hours to the selection of the scholarship recipients.The review committee consisted of Mr. Wayne Ahrens, P.E., Ms. Andrea Chang, P.E., Mr. Hari Vasudevan, Ms. Amy Stonaker, E.I.T., Mr. Mark Wells, P.E., Mr. Bert Link, P.E., Ms. Nancy Blackwell, P.E., Ms. Elizabeth H. Kirk, P.E., and Mr. Brian Kirk, P.E.The Greater Houston Chapter of TSPE has generously awarded scholarships to four deserving high school students.
Two students will receive a continuing 4-year scholarship in the total amount of $5,500.These students are Laura Bradt from Clear Brook High School and Lindsey Wohlfort from Memorial High School.Ms. Bradt plans to study Chemical Engineering.She is an avid runner that participates with the cross-country team and has competed in the science fair every year, even winning an award from TSPE for her engineering science fair project her freshman year.Ms. Wohlfort plans to study Biomedical Engineering.Ms. Wohlfort is a member of her school’s dance team, plays piano competitively and also competes in Math competitions.
Brynnan Webster from the Woodlands High School and Sarah Kroll from Nimitz High School have each been awarded one-time scholarships in the amount of $1000.Mr. Webster intends to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering.He has been very involved with swimming, the Science Club, his church, and was the delegate to Boys State 2008.Ms. Kroll plans to study Mechanical Engineering.Ms. Kroll is a well-rounded and accomplished student that has been involved in competitions ranging from speech and history to fast pitch softball.She plans for a career in the field of energy with renewable resources upon graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree.
The Greater Houston Chapter also has a scholarship program for engineering students at the University of Houston.This year, students will be required to write an essay on the importance of pursuing a Professional Engineering license.$1,000 scholarship is designated for any UH engineering student submits an application by June 1, 2009.If you know
