Since 1932 the Houston Junior Chamber (Houston Jaycees) and the Houston Junior Chamber Foundation have recognized the outstanding young men and women of Houston for their accomplishments and contributions to the Houston community. Now in its 78th year, this event honors five individuals who have distinguished themselves as leaders across Houston.
For the year 2010, Sanjay Ramabhadran (Ram), P.E., a Civil Engineer (Vice President at CP&Y) was honored as one of Five Outstanding Young Houstonians. The other honorees included Jim Brown – CEO of Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital, Russ Frank – Associate VP with METRO; Lauren Nolasco – VP & Co-Founder of Advarian Inc. and Kate Allen Stukenberg – Fashion Editor at PaperCity Magazine. An event honoring the 5 Outstanding Young Houstonians was held August 12 at 7 PM at the Intercontinental Hotel. The event recognized these individuals and encouraged other young leaders to emulate their qualities.
Houstonians who have received this recognition include President George H.W. Bush, Howard Hughes, Dr. Denton Cooley, Lt. Governor William P. Hobby, Jr., Attorney General Greg Abbott, CBS-TV Anchorman Dan Rather, Pastor Joel Osteen, Mayors Lewis Cutrer and C.A. "Neal" Pickett, Senator Jack Ogg, Astronauts Gus Grissom and Ed White, Judge Paul Pressler, Houston Oilers Warren Moon and Ray Childress, Houston Astros Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio, and TV personalities Debra Duncan, Yolanda Green, and Miya Shay.
Sanjay manages the CP&Y’s Houston office and is Deputy Director of the Environmental Division that implements water, infrastructure and energy efficiency projects in the southwest US. CP&Y, Inc. was recently recognized as member of the PSMJ Resources, Inc.’s Circle of Excellence (COE) for 2010. CP&Y was one of 41 firms chosen for the 2010 Circle of Excellence. CP&Y is ranked #328 on the ENR Top 500 design Firms.
Sanjay’s achievements in his chosen profession truly set him apart, but what makes him “outstanding” are his contributions to the organizations he serves in the community.
He has, and continues to play, a leadership role in promoting the business, civic, charitable and political involvement of the community. His civic involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of LEADERSHIP HOUSTON, President of the 96-year-old HESS Club, Chairperson of the Mayor’s International Trade & Development Council (South Asia), City of Houston – Building & Standards Commission, host of a public policy radio talk show – “Insights,” HCEC – Governmental Affairs Committee, Chair of Houston Engineer’s Week Committee (2008), Past President of the Indo-American Political Action Committee (IAPAC), and Board of Directors of the Indo-American Charity Foundation.
He has facilitated and coordinated high-level in-bound trade delegations to Houston, represented the region on out-bound trade delegations and has been an invited speaker to a US-India Infrastructure Summit. He has been an integral part of business summits, trade delegations and briefings pertaining to Indo-US deliberations on Public Infrastructure.
Sanjay has successfully moderated Mayoral debates in Houston and Sugar Land. Be it Houston’s Adopt a Village program helping re-build villages after the earthquake in India, post-Tsunami/Ike relief efforts or kindling the philanthropic spirit of the community to benefit those in need in Houston, he has demonstrated that community service is a key ingredient in his life.
He has a Master’s degree in Civil (Environmental) Engineering from Texas A&M University and an undergraduate degree from BITS-Pilani, India. He has provided planning, program management and engineering services to the Industrial and Governmental market sectors for 15 years. He has been associated with major civil and infrastructure projects across the Greater Houston region.
