Last year was another great year as far as scholarships are concerned. The Greater Houston Chapter awarded two renewable 4-year scholarships in the amount of $5,500 each, two additional scholarships of $1,000 each to graduating high school students in the Houston area and another $1,000 scholarship to a University of Houston Engineering student. Applications are being accepted for the Greater Houston Chapter of TSPE Young Engineer of the Year. Applications must be submitted by December 26, 2009. The honoree will be selected based on their engineering education, career experience, participation in Chapter activites and volunteer services for applicants 35 years of age or less. Summer has gone by so quickly with vacations, work, and conferences. I hope everyone has enjoyed it, even with the extremely hot Houston temperatures. Hopefully the break has helped to prepare each of us for the challenges ahead. This year the Greater Houston Chapter of TSPE received 52 scholarship applications from high school students in and around the Houston area. The scholarship review committee dedicated numerous hours to the selection of the scholarship recipients. It’s been a very busy past three months. E-Week was a tremendous success. I want to wish one of our members, Nancy Blackwell, good luck on chairing next years E-Week Committee.
