It’s All About Water as Middle School Students Focus on Conservation, Reuse and Self-Sufficient Systems in Future City Competition Nobody can doubt the importance of water and water resources in our world, whether it be clean drinking water or water as a resource for sanitation, irrigation, or fire protection. But as our cities grow and expand, what can be done to conserve and reuse such a valuable resource? Beginning this fall, thousands of middle school students will tackle that ...

I hope everyone survived Ike and well on their way to recovery. As a native Houstonian, I have never seen such damage inflicted on this area. It is amazing how quickly we have been able to bounce back and get this city back on its feet. Even though I was out of power for 14 days, it is incredible how organized CenterPoint was to handle this crisis. Likewise, the leadership of County Judge Emmett and Mayor White are to be commended. When you consider a city the size of Houston, the destruction ...

We just completed a very successful state Leadership Conference in Kerrville. The Greater Houston Chapter was well represented with 13 members in attendance. Jim Dalton gave an excellent seminar on “Breaking Away from Stereotypes”. Mr. Dalton’s main point was the Licensed Professional Engineer must find a way to distinguish themselves from the engineer practicing without a license. He used the CPA as an example. The general public can associate with the CPA although it is not a degree that one ...

As part of this outreach, we are assisting interested students to establish a student chapter at their school. There are several student chapters of TSPE throughout the state, providing engineering students with the opportunity to interact with local professionals in various engineering fields and provide scholarships, ...

Last year was a spectacular year as far as scholarships are concerned. The Greater Houston Chapter awarded two renewable 4-year scholarships in the amount of $5,500 each and three additional scholarships of $1,000 each to graduating high school students in the Houston area. This was above and beyond the planned award of only two renewable scholarships. In addition to the Greater Houston Chapter’s existing high school scholarship program, the Chapter received $1,000 from the Texas Education ...

Mathcounts is a national competition for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders that involves math testing and an oral countdown round. Houston is home to the defending State Champion and runner-up National Champion, Bobby Shen of First ...

As we begin the 2008/2009 Greater Houston TSPE fiscal year we face many challenges. Our goal is to continue to provide our membership benefits not only on the local level but also the state and national level. To do this, we must maintain strong chapter committees. Some of these include Professional Licensing, L & GA, Leadership Forum and Education. In addition, the Past Presidents Committee has been reactivated with specific goals for the upcoming year. Attached are list of the Chapter ...
