Dr. Robin Forman serves as the Dean of Undergraduates at Rice University, a position he has held since February of 2005, and Professor of Mathematics. He received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981 and his Ph.D from Harvard University in 1985. He joined the Rice faculty in 1987 after serving on the faculty at MIT. His primary research interests focus on ways of applying the tools of topology and geometry to problems in discrete mathematics. As Dean of Undergraduates, he is responsible for overseeing the undergraduate experience at Rice, including academic issues, especially those aspects related to general education, as well as all noncurricular components of student life. Of special interest are those projects that include elements both in and out of the classroom, such as the new Center for Civic Engagement, which supports opportunities for students to do academic research and design projects that address the needs of the Houston Community. On July 1, 2010, he will assume a new position - Dean of Emory College of Arts and Sciences, at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
