 Mission: Future City is a nationwide program that began in 1992 and provides 7th and 8th grade students a stimulating engineering challenge with a "hands-on" application to present their city of the future. Engineers mentor students as they make their dreams into realities. This competition combines math, science, business, government and technology like no other.

MathCounts
 Description:



MATHCOUNTS is a nationwide program that promotes math excellence for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and combines the efforts of education, business, government and the technological community. It is a math skills coaching program based on higher thinking skills development with a series of progressive competitions at local, state and national levels. It motivates students to do well in math and recognizes and rewards them for achievement. The program also gives the math teachers an incentive to excel in their classrooms.

Scholarships
 Description:
Each year, the Greater Houston Chapter awards two 4-year scholarships to graduating high school students planning to study engineering in an ABET accredited program at a Texas university.  The scholarship amount increases over four years to encourage students to continue in their pursuit of obtaining an engineering degree. 
 
The Chapter also provides a one-year scholarship to a University of Houston Engineering student. 
 
The scholarship deadline for high school graduating seniors is Friday, January 14, 2011.  The applications are available at http://dev.tspe.org/Education/Scholarships/tabid/55/Default.aspx
 
Applications must include recommendations, transcripts and an essay.  The Greater Houston Chapter does not require any interviews.  The application may be delivered or postmarked by the January 14, 2011 deadline.
